Adrenal Disease

Symptoms

  • Hair loss (usually beginning at the end of their tail, but it can appear anywhere) which moves up towards their shoulders in a symmetrical fashion.
  • Muscle loss
  • Potbelly appearance
  • Lethargy
  • Orangey skin color
  • Weight loss, sometimes dramatic
  • Enlarged vulva (females) or enlarged prostate (males)

Cure

Adrenal Disease in ferrets can be cured with surgery. You best bet is to do a Google search for your area, and find a doctor near you who specializes in ferrets.

Note

Some vets have called symptoms of adrenal disease "skin irritation" when it indeed was not, and prescribed neosporin. If this is the case with your vet, and your vet is not a ferret specialist, I highly recommend getting a second opinion.
